December 24th - Christmas Eve

Last minute preparations

        With everything that has been going on I had yet to even decorate my tree until today. We went with a red and green theme, I now have enough decorations that I can choose a different theme for my tree each year.

        I am also furiously wrapping all the gifts that need to go to our family's houses tomorrow. Good thing I have a bunch of gift bags.

        I am not much of a drinker but tonight we will be having a few eggnogs with amaretto. I looked into the history of Eggnog and came up with two stories. Either it was egg in a noggin (mug for brandy) that was shortened in Europe or egg and grog (rum) shortened in the colonials. Either way it is yummy.

December 23rd - Blue Christmas

Let it Snow...

        Even though in the last few days we finally had snow that stayed on the ground, it's not really feeling like Christmas to me. I have eggnog, rice crispie treats, twinkle lights and decorations and yet I still don't feel in the spirit this year. I guess I will just have a broken heart this Christmas. I watched "A Year Without A Santa Claus" today and one of the songs really sums up how I feel.

December 22nd - Christmas Cookie!

Short and Ginger Bread...sometimes Sugar Cookies

        I am not a big cookie eater. But I do make an exception at Christmas. Mostly because my uncle makes the most wonderful shortbreads. we asked for the recipe once but he said there was no secret, it was the recipe on the cornstarch box. I like ginger molasses cookies too, not as much but they are better for decorating. Well them and sugar cookie. But I will admit I usually don't eat sugar cookies unless they are the Pillsbury frozen kind. Gross I know but we all have our guilty pleasures.
