December 20th -Shorter than usual

I wasn't going to mention this because it is so close to Christmas and I didn't want to bring the spirit down but I have had a very devastating death in the family and I am out of pre-prepared  posts.I am not sure if I am going to make my deadline. I am 6 projects away but I am really upset and I just don't know if I can make it. My post will be short. I have a lot to do and a lot to think about.

So here is today's post...

I am making another bear

I made a polar bear for my niece a few Christmases ago and now she wants a multi-coloured one. I guess to keep the original bear company. I don't know if he will be a New Year's bear or what but I hope to have it finished by the time I see her Christmas day.

December 18th - Some completed projects

Meet Chicken and Duck!

A co-worker has twin boys and they went out as a chicken and a duck for Hallowe'en, so I thought what if I made a chicken and duck doll for Christmas. They are 100% Peruvian highland wool,  stuffed with polyfil, they are machine washable, complete with safety eyes. They are sitting in the two stockings I made out of red boiled wool and green velvet.

December 17th - A day to remember Family and Friends

Through the years we all will be together if the fates allow....

At this festive time of year don't forget to reach out to family and friends you haven't spoken to in a while. Remember time waits for no man and you need to love people while they are still around. It is also a good time to think of those we loved and lost.  To those people, tonight I say, I miss you.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light,
Next year all our troubles will be
out of sight,

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the yule-tide gay
Next year all our troubles will be
miles away,

Once again as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Will be near to us once more
Someday soon, we all will be together
If the Fates allow
Until then, we'll have to muddle through somehow
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

December 16th - What are Jingler Bells?

Decorations and Other Christmas Symbols
Jingle Bells - bells were apparently rung to celebrate the birth of Christ. They are also used to announce the presence of a travel, like Santa Claus and the jingle bells on his sleigh.

Star - is a reminder of the star that lead the wise men to  Bethlehem. Alternatively the star can be used as a sign of hope.

Holly- druids though holly had healing powers and symbolized eternal life. To Christians, holly represents parts of the crucifixion of Christ. The red berries symbolize the blood of Jesus, the drops that fell on the cross. The leaves are prickly like the crown of thorns.

December 15th - The history of Christmas Trees

Why do we have Christmas Trees?

To answer this question, we have to travel back to 16th century Germany where the tradition began. Christmas Trees are always a type of evergreen which is a sign of everlasting life for some cultures. But to Christians trying to convert non-believers,the shape of evergreen trees have also been used to describe the holy trinity, the father, the son and the holy spirit. The converted sometimes called these trees as God's trees. Light, originally candles, were added by Martin Luther to symbolize light, hope in the dark. Decoration are signs of prosperity and more hope for the new year. Here is a picture of the tree at my family's house.

December 14th - Christmas Vacation

National Lampoon was right!

I love this movie. I also really envy their house. I wish I had half the space they have but I still want all their lights.

I especially love the animation during the credits. I really love the Santa, so cute.
