December 15th - The history of Christmas Trees

Why do we have Christmas Trees?

To answer this question, we have to travel back to 16th century Germany where the tradition began. Christmas Trees are always a type of evergreen which is a sign of everlasting life for some cultures. But to Christians trying to convert non-believers,the shape of evergreen trees have also been used to describe the holy trinity, the father, the son and the holy spirit. The converted sometimes called these trees as God's trees. Light, originally candles, were added by Martin Luther to symbolize light, hope in the dark. Decoration are signs of prosperity and more hope for the new year. Here is a picture of the tree at my family's house.
